For your task this week you must imagine that you are a Roman soldier. You must write a letter to your friend convincing them to join the Roman army. Some things you might want to mention are;
- How long they will be in the army
- The different countries they will travel to
- The amount of money they will get paid every year
- The pension (the things they will be given when they retire)
An example of how to start your letter is below;
Dear _____,
I hope you are well. I'm missing you terribly.
I am currently travelling in Britannia as a soldier in the Roman Army and I'm having such a wonderful time. You should join me!

If you join, you have to stay for 20 years. You get to travel nearly all over the world without your family.
For each year you get paid £18,000. As I am a Centurion, I get paid 5 times the amount.
When you retire, you get paid £5,000 per year and have a large piece of land from the kingdom.The only thing you can take home when you retire is the belt, so everyone will know you worked in the Roman army.
The armour is very heavy. Before you join the army you have to get all you need from your home. In the army, you walk 20 miles a day with the things you get from home. It’s really fun and exciting here. Waiting for your response.

It is hard work not as easy as it looks like.
Well you see I joined the Roman Army 6 years ago. I am travelling in Britannia hear there everywhere my scariest fights were at Germany, France, Holland and Spain.By the way you have to were very heavy armour even heavier than a piece of stone from Hadrian's Wall so you'd better stay fit.You have to walk from 20-30 Miles a day, and don't sit there saying ' Well that is easy anyone can do that, but you have to carry food, water, oil and your other useful things you might need during the Roman army. You have to stay at the Roman for 10 years or longer if you want the more you stay the more you get paid for each year you get paid £18,000, but I get paid 5 times the amount as I am a Centurion, but Angelo when you retire you get paid £5,000 per year and have a large piece of land from the kingdom. The only thing you can take home when you retire is the retire belt, so everyone will know that you used to work for the Roman Army. If you join, you have to stay for 20 years without your family and no crying "I want my parents" when you join it you stay there for 20 years or longer remember want I told you the longer you stay the more you get paid.

As I am writing this letter I am travelling to Britannia. I can see Britannia in the distance, it looks beautiful as I approach it.
The salary to work in the Roman army is £18,000, but as I am a centurion I will earn five times as much!
I have been carrying my heavy armour for the past 20 miles! My shoulders and legs feel as though they are going to fall off!
The food has a wonderful taste and aroma of chicken & lamb. They are grilled on the fire!
I hope you join the army so we can battle the Britain’s.

Iam writing this letter to tell you what happens in Britannia I am earning $ 18,00000 my favourite part in the army is to battle the Picts. They are quite rude,very rude. Zohan,would you like to join the army so we can battle together it would be fun don't you think,how about you have a think about it.But if you join the army you have to stay for 20 years.If you don't want to join the army please send anyone you know that would like to join the army we need more soldiers but we could also use you have to admit you are good at battling.At the moment we are building Hadrian's wall you would love to see how big it is in person it's bigger than you'd expect i do not know how they manage to find space to build it because i work slap bang in the middle of the wall. we have to work very hard to complete it.It takes a lot of energy out of me.I have to carry very heavy armour but i have to risk it because i chose to be a soldier I think i made the wrong choice to be a soldier we are building the to divide the picts and earn our peace and freedom.We are building it somewhere in north England i am not sure where though i'll ask Hadrian for you.P.S Reply please.

By the way we’re building a massive wall called Hadrian’s wall Hadrian’s making us do the work and it is tiring but worth it . The view I get is amazing because I get to look over the top of the wall to keep an eye out for the picts climbing over are massive wall
Here are some facts about it:
• It is 80 miles long
• It has loads of towns(villages)
• It is planned to go across the country(might not)

ReplyDeleteI’m missing you lots and lots, I wish you were with me. Were building a huge wall and its called Hadrian’s wall. It separates Scotland and Britannia because we don’t the like the picts. Hadrian is making us work really hard from dusk till dawn. If you have worked really hard and your commanding officer is proud of you then, you can get paid up to £19,000.
If you’re a vegetarian you won’t last long here as everyone eats meat! Before you can even think about retiring you have to work for 20 or more years and then you can only keep your belt the rest stays with your commanding officer.

You see I joined the Roman army 7 years ago.
I am a Roman Centurion now and I get paid five times The price, of 18 000 Aures or (90 000 gold coins). I travelled long distances to fight and to roam countries , to protect our land and gain more land from the enemies territory. I've been conquering France, England, Netherlands and Germany.
When I will leave the army, my father and mother that were at the village told me that when I retire I will get five times the price of 5 000 gold Aures( 25 000 gold coins ). These are the benefits of the Roman Centurion so if you would like to join us then tell one of the Centurions and they wear Galea Helmets that are made of brass and have horse tail hairs on the very top.
Really sophisticated, Angelo not only that is not a big comment but you tried to remember all the things we did on our Roman workshop really full of detail!

I'm a soldier in Roman Army, I'm visiting so many beautiful countries, like Spain and I'm going to Britannia right now.
And actually you can join me there.
You will get good money like 5000 per year or much more as a centurion.
You will eat tasty meat and meet many loyal soldiers.
It's not an easy work and it lasts 25 years but you will be proud of yourself for serving Rome.
You will walk 20 miles per day with heavy equipment but you can make it!
At the end you will keep your belt and even get a land!
So think about it and let me know my dear friend.
